Lincoln Mark V TV Commercials (1977–1979)
Lincoln-Mercury produced a series of television commercials to promote the 1977, 1978, and 1979 Continental Mark V. Distributed to dealers on early videocassette tapes, many of these "lost" commercials deteriorated or were discarded. The clips preserved here document how Lincoln marketed its best-selling personal luxury coupe at the close of the 1970s.
Lost Lincoln Commercials: 1977–1979 Dealer Tapes
Lincoln made several television commercials for the 1977 through 1979 Lincoln car lines. These were done on a very modern, at the time, VCR type of tape for dissemination to LM dealers. These tapes did not have a good shelf life and many have deteriorated so that they cannot be played or they were thrown away. The taping system was the precursor to the 1980s BETA VCR system.
The tapes could be handed over from the dealer to their local television broadcast outlet for city or region wide viewing. If you look under DEALER ALBUMS page on this website you will find the Advertising Manuals for 1978 and 1979. Here you can peruse the list of titles for Lincoln Mercury TV commercials.
